A new way of meeting this demand is to arrange relatively spontaneous lifts. With the help of their mobile phone, both drivers and (possible) passengers can offer or look for lifts while on their way. This also works for short distances and in rural areas. That way it is possible to exploit the potential of so far unused transport capacities in private traffic with a system to bring the provider and the user together. A system will be set up which allows to carpool in a relatively spontaneous way to manage a shared distance. This helps to make full use of the potentials of private traffic. The system shifts leisure travel to more efficient transport modes. Lifts are flexible and allow for individual needs. Passengers save costs and can reach their destination in a comfortable way. Drivers are not obliged to give someone a lift. However, they can reduce their own travel costs considerably by doing so.
