Resilience

Robust value chains and resilient infrastructures

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us how fragile global value chains can be. At the latest since Russia's war of aggression, the whole of Europe has realized what the dependence of the economy and society on an overpowering supplier of such an important energy source can mean.

But the effects of the climate catastrophe are also being felt in the form of record temperatures, extreme weather events (e.g. long periods of heat; heavy, regionally limited rainfall; storms ...) and the associated floods, droughts and forest fires as well as the loss of biodiversity. Damage to critical infrastructure alone, which is attributed to climate change, currently amounts to an average of around 3.4 billion euros per year in Europe (baseline).

All of this has an impact on the economy's ability to produce reliably and compete internationally. It is therefore necessary to rethink value chains and infrastructures - naturally also in the context of decarbonization.

We provide answers on value chains and resilient infrastructures

The experts at the Austrian Energy Agency, with their (energy) technology, economics and social science training as well as experience in numerous multidisciplinary projects, have methods and tools to analyze and evaluate complex problems relating to value chains and infrastructures and to develop proposed solutions.

Overview

In the 3rd call for tenders of the "Energy Transition 2050" programme, the Climate and Energy Fund (KLIEN) financed an R&E service on the topic of "The effects of digitalization on energy consumption and climate in Austria". The Austrian Energy Agency (AEA) was awarded the contract for this tender together with the Austrian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (FEEI). This study was completed at the end of June 2022.
